Mirian Martinez

My name is Mirian Martinez I am a 17 year old ALMA senior here at Hoover High. I am someone who looks at life with only positive aspects. Something that differentiates myself from others is my drive to live life with passion and authenticity. As a senior, I try to maintain a pleasant and positive demeanor to everything being that I have experienced much in my life. A struggle of mine is that I try to take more on my plate than I can handle and try to be an asset to any institution I can be apart of, such as school, my friends and my community. I overcame this struggle by trying to be the best I can be, by continually improving and working hard, as well as maintaining balance and flexibility in my life.

Someone I consider to be my role model is Angela Davis because she was a political activist who addressed civil and women’s rights, poverty & peace, and prison reform. She became a symbol of the abusive power of the criminal justice system. She also became a popular professor and wrote about fighting for revolutionary social and political reform in the interests of the repressed. Her perspective on social issues, as well as her accomplishments, helped shape me with my political stance as well as encouraged me into becoming more concerned and away of political and social issues.
