Kaelyn Hughes
“Don’t dwell on the past, don’t dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.”
Although my parents are Christian, I still like this saying even though it isn’t necessarily under my own religion. My name is Kaelyn Hughes, I am a senior at Hoover High School in the Academy of Literature Media and Arts. I want to graduate high school and attend Humboldt University, majoring in English in order to be an ESL teacher. My plan is to get a teaching degree, in order to teach and travel around the world. Europe has been one of the places I’ve wanted to see, more specifically Spain. I would describe myself as a nice, silly, adorable and caring person.
Coming from a family of hard workers, and those who believe in me has been a positive attribute. Their saying is “only you can make it happen.” My parents have always been supportive of my siblings and I. Half my identity is based off of my family, they mean everything to me. Nothing will ever replace them. I like the color pink, ice cream, and my dog, Frosty, who is as much part of my family as my other siblings.
I have always thought of Hoover as a second home, but now I believe I am in a forest surrounded by snakes. Why is that? Not in a bad way or anything. I love the people here, the friends I’ve made, the teachers I’ve met. Personally I would say Mr Heu is my favorite teacher on campus, and Sarah Vidal is my best friend, but fitting in was kind of hard. I didn’t want people to judge me, I wanted to please others but then I realized that I just wanted to be me, and that was good enough.
