Giving thanks for what we have

Giving+thanks+for+what+we+have

The staff of The Cardinal would like to wish their fellow Cardinals a Happy Thanksgiving! We hope everyone eats a lot today, and is ready for either watching football, holiday movies, or do some very early shopping since some stores will be open.  We also hope you are all safe and please be careful if you’re shopping on Black Friday!

The editors wish to share what they are thankful for this year.

This Thanksgiving break has to be the best one I’ve ever had yet. I’m thankful for having a seasonal job for the first time and taking my first steps on becoming more of an independent person. I’m thankful for my teammates who still hang out during lunch every single day by the bungalows. I’m thankful for being able to reconnect with some old friends and spend as much time as possible during our senior year. Most of all, I’m thankful for my father and my older siblings for making me the young man that I’ve grown up to be.

There are many times I am thankful, but what I think I’m most thankful for is being here today and being able to have an education that I wouldn’t be able to have if my parents didn’t bring me to America. They wanted me to have a better future and a chance to be successful and I know it was a struggle for them to go through all the process in order to bring me here and I’m really grateful because of that. I know I wouldn’t disappoint them because I don’t want all their dedication and perseverance to go to waste. I want them to be proud of me because I want to go far in life and I want to pay them back by being successful. I want them to live a happy life later on when I become a person that they can rely on. If I stayed in Cambodia, I know that I wouldn’t get a good education because English school is so expensive there and they have really bad pronunciation and there are not many jobs that are suitable for me because they don’t pay well. Once again I just want to say that I’m so thankful that my parents brought me here because without them, I don’t think I’ll become the person I am today.

This year, I have a lot to be thankful for. I’m thankful for my family because they are always supportive of me and encourage me to accomplish important things in life. Without my family, I believe that I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I am thankful for my friends because they are always there for me when I need them. My friends are quite humorous and know when to cheer me up. I’m thankful for having an education because unfortunately, many people can’t have one. Having an education is important to me because it brings me knowledge and helps me grow as a person. Lastly, I am extremely thankful to be alive. I’m glad that I have many opportunities in life to accomplish my goals and to become a better person.

There are many things I am thankful for but what I’m most thankful for are my family and close friends. I am thankful for the fact that my family does everything they can to make sure I don’t do anything stupid or make regretful choices. They might be super irritating but I couldn’t ask for anything more. I am also thankful for my close friends who help me with problems or issues I go through or those who just simply make my day. I am especially thankful for my friends Jose, Chanmonita, Moises and the four clowns. Overall, the things I am most thankful for are the things I love.

Every day I’m thankful for these things, but around this time of year is when I get to acknowledge them. I’m thankful for God for blessing me with another day. I’m thankful for my loving, caring family and for all they do for me. I’m thankful for my friends & boyfriend for always being there for me. I’m thankful for having a place to live and food to eat. I’m very thankful for my bed for being my favorite place to be. Most of all I’m thankful for being able to receive the opportunities at Hoover and thankful for the programs offered there to help me attend college, my number one goal in life right now.
