The Responsibility of Voting
When you hit the age of 18-years-old, you’re considered an adult. One of the rights you get as an official adult is having the right to vote for any type of government elections in the united states. Now, just because you are 18 or older does not necessarily mean one has to vote.
The choice is fully on yourself to decide whether or not you want to vote. Being 18 gives you the title of an adult. As an adult you get the right to speak of for your country which should be something we should all have respect for. Being able to vote for who we want to be part of our government system is a huge deal. To some people it might not to matter so much, but to others it is very important because their life depends on the official getting elected.
As you all know, the government is in control of how our country is ran. The people we vote for are all responsible for the way we want our country to work. At our age, adults still treat us as kids, but if we were to show them as young voters that we too can make a difference in our country by voting we would receive more respect.
Many people might think that 18 year olds do not vote as much as older aged adults, but that is false information. According to The Washington Post, it is known to be that 18 year olds out vote adults between the ages of 20-25. In today’s generation, more and more younger adults are informed in politics, the news, everyday life, trends, and what they believe could benefit their future. By the government lowering the voting age, they give 18 year olds an opportunity to show their responsibility. As these young adults move onto college, they are getting a higher education which leads to higher intellectual decisions.
With the youth’s perspective being involved into decisions for our country, many believe this will be help towards future generations because younger generations are voting for those they want to represent them. The age limit given in order to vote I believe is a proper age. It gives these young adults the chance to speak up for what they want right away when they are given the title of an adult.
