Carla Patricia Morrison Flores is a Mexican indie pop singer and guitarist.
Carla Morrison was born in Tecate, Baja California, on July 19 1986. Morrison lived in Tecate during her childhood, taking classes in dancing and drawing. At age of 17, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona to study music at Mesa Community College. She dropped out to perform as the lead singer of the band Babaluca alongside Nicolas Kizer and Niki Petta. Morrison soon stepped away from the band in order to pursue a solo career. Morrison has released three studio albums and has received various awards and nominations including two Grammy Award nominations and three Latin Grammy Awards.
Morrison has written a song named “Hasta La Raiz,” and to this I connect because the significance of this song connects to my roots. This song is known as an anthem to human strength, without forgetting our roots. Morrison is not only a singer but she uses her songs to express her opinions. She expresses how she feels about her relationship with her roots and with the people who she is close with, even with the people who she mourns. The way she sings, her calming voice, it’s like fresh air because it’s something that doesn’t go fast.
I grew up liking English songs but listening to Carla Morrison allows me to connect to my Mexican roots. It also allows me to learn how to understand more of the meaning in songs. Her songs have helped me in so many ways regarding my personal problems.
