On October 23, Hoover’s annual haunted house, “Into the Unknown,” opened its eerie doors for all students, friends, and families to experience the awaiting scares that hide within the house.
The haunted house had a small preview for an hour at homecoming and it turned out to be a total hit! Now for a full experience of the house, it will be open from 5-8 PM, with tonight, October 25, in Hoover High’s auditorium, the last night. Don’t let looks fool you. Though the haunted house is high quality in terms of scares and experience, the price for tickets is not as scary, as it is $5 for children and students and $8 for adults.
The house also changes to ensure that everyone gets a new, different, and suspenseful experience regardless of the stories told by their friends or if they come back to enjoy the house for a second or third time. As you hesitantly walk through the house, trying to avoid what waits for you, the experience you find yourself in these different sections, specifically coordinated to your imagination.
The planning for this haunted house started early in the year to ensure a fun and hair-raising experience for the upcoming spooky season. Technical theater students had to brainstorm ideas for the theme of this year’s haunted house.
“We wanted to start early in order to fully give students a fun time,” said senior Tatyana Leonard.
“We had to map things out several times before we came up with the path,” said senior Juice Reyes. “There was some arguing and yelling, but in the end, we made it all work.”
Every scare actor was assigned a section based on what they thought would look the best in terms of their ideas. They had to come up with designs for the house and designs for their scary look.
“It was pretty fun and I really liked it,” said junior Janelle. “It was better than haunted trails!”
The technical theater students at Hoover are extremely creative so ultimately, they came up with the idea of making changes to the house every day to fully execute all of their creative and twisted ideas. This is an annual event created for the Hoover community and beyond.
“I’m really proud of this crew,” expressed tech teacher Mr. Heu. “They really took ownership of this project and it shows!”
This is the 15th year that the haunted house has been created. Each year they try to do new things. Unfortunately, on opening night, the fog machine set off the fire alarms.
