Rumors are spreading everyday no matter the area or the people. It could be adults, it could be high school students, middle school students, or even elementary kids.
I think social media plays a big part in rumors because things can spread easier and faster with only one click away. This can cause students to be distracted with their school work and not focus and be disengaged in class. This causes them to miss not only school work, but lecture information which may possibly lead to failing some of their classes.
Rumors can and will always be a problem within the Hoover community because of electronics such as phones. Social media such as Instagram, Tiktok, Snapchat, etc., also contribute to the problem. I also think this contributes to the new school rule about the phone policy and how they don’t want us to have phones during class time and to focus on our studies.
Currently, students are so used to having their phone and relying on social media, like Instagram, to get their news. Once they see what has been said, they spread it to other people who may not have seen it or to people that don’t use those social media apps. Then once students check it out, they will spread it to other students around campus and even to students outside campus. Some information can be true, some are false and it is those rumors that are being told that can affect people in different ways.
Whatever it may be, good or bad news, the people that are being talked about in this hear it, and it can affect how they learn. They will only think about it and not pay attention. It will affect how they feel, and then how to overcome it. I personally don’t think the rumors will stop because people will talk, even when they don’t know the truth. People should not believe what they hear unless they hear it from the person that’s being talked about. But then again, it’s none of their business.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do about that because certain people thrive on gossip and like to talk about people because that’s all they have. Even so, knowing all of that, you as an individual can help stop spreading information and that can also encourage people to do the same thing.
