Melissa Nunez is a freshman at Hoover High School and is a part of the class of 2028.

Melissa is a kind and loving person who always looks out for her friends and is an amazing friend to have. Her family consists of four people, her mother, father, brother and herself. Her father is from Michoacan and her mom is from Zacatecas. They moved here so her and her brother can have a better education.

Melissa rarely has any free time between homework, and work but when she does, she enjoys watching a show called The Gilmore Girls and she likes window shopping. She enjoys looking at a product that she thinks is fascinating without the fact of having to deal with its price or having to buy it, but simply admiring it.

Some of Melissa’s likes include watching movies, listening to music, hanging out with friends and being a part of band, where plays the alto saxophone. She has been playing the alto saxophone ever since her middle school teacher placed her on it. At the time she was playing viola, but her teacher wanted to start a jazz club and asked her to play the alto saxophone and she fell in love with it. She joined Hoover’s 2024 marching band because she wanted to do an extracurricular in the beginning of the school year and she thought it would be fun to be able to play at home football games and she made many new friends and new memories she would never forget. She joined Pep Band this semester, which is the band that plays for home basketball games, because her favorite part of being in marching band was the stand band which is where you stand in the stands and play the tunes you have memorized. They do that in pep band as well.

After high school, Melissa wants to go to a community college to explore her options and see what she’s interested in then transfer to a UC. She’s currently interested in majoring in nursing to become a paramedic but obviously still has some time to really think about it.

Melissa enjoys being at Hoover as it’s where all her friends are. She enjoys being around school and experiencing her freshman year alongside her friends.

Cielo Ugarte is a senior in the former ALMA academy, VAPA, at Hoover High School. She was born in December and is the youngest of two siblings. She wants to attend community college for two years then hopefully transfer out to UCSD but she still isn’t sure what she wants to major in. She’s currently thinking about majoring in business administration but isn’t exactly sure yet. All she knows is that she wants a job that’ll put her social skills to work. Cielo is part of a big extended family because her grandma had 16 kids. She lives with her mom, dad, brother, aunt, and two dogs, Mimi and Mochi. She wants to learn French, Italian and continue learning sign language so she can be able to communicate with people who are mute. She enjoys listening to music in her free time and also likes to watch movies to kill time. She enjoys listening to any genre of music that isn’t k-pop, country, rock, or heavy metal. She enjoys singing and she also plays the flute. She was a part of the Hoover Cardinal’s Marching Band and played the flute there too. She’s been playing the flute for almost three years now and really enjoys it. Cielo is a very social person who can talk to pretty much anyone but also doesn’t like public speaking or presentations because she has a bit of stage fright. She’s an honest and caring person who always tries to help out the people around her. She likes helping out her friends whenever they may need it.
