SZA is a talented American singer and songwriter!
SZA is her stage name, pronounced as “siz-za,” which stands for Solana Imani Rowe, which is her actual name as well. She was born in Solana Imani Rowe on November 8, 1990, in St. Louis. She comes from a diverse family of Islam’s supreme alphabet, which assigns meanings to letters of the Roman alphabet. S stands for sovereign or savior, Z is for zig-zag, and A is for Allah. She primarily grew up outside of New York City, in the suburb of Maplewood, New Jersey.
Her parents shared related career paths as media executives. Her father, Abdul Mubarak-Rowe, was employed by CNN, and her mother, Audrey Rowe, by AT&T. Eventually, they differed in their personalities about faith. Her father committed that their children would be raised Orthodox Muslim, and her Christian mother had followed along as well, even attending a mosque for prayers.
SZA has won many awards for performing alternative R&B, neo-soul, and cloud rap music styles throughout her musical career. Many of the awards she has been nominated for include Grammys Awards, MTV, BET Awards, Juno Awards, NAACP, Billboard Music Awards, Soul Train Music, Brit Awards, and iHeartRadio Music. Her career rose to musical fame with support from EPs, collaborations, and Ctrl, and 2022’s SOS was an even bigger hit landing almost on top of the Billboard 200.
In 2013, after self-releasing her mixtape– See. SZA. Run (published in 2012) and an EP’s (published in 2013), SZA became the first-ever female artist to sign up with TDE (Top Dog Entertainment). Her most popular playlist known as SOS features her first No. 1 song “Kill Bill” which received a 2024 Grammy award for Best Progressive R&B Album. She also was chosen to sing at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show with Kendrick Lamar featuring the songs “luther (with SZA)” and “All The Stars (with SZA).”
