Anime can be seen as a form of escapism.
Anime is a style of Japanese film and commonly used as a medium for entertainment catered towards kids and teens, usually depicted with colorful art and expressive personalities. But this art form has expanded worldwide and connected across a plain of multiple cultures, being a break from reality for many.
One of these reasons is due to the multiple different types of worlds that viewers are able to immerse themselves into. Anime is not confined to one or two different genres but instead expands beyond traditional storytelling, offering to a vast audience catering to diverse interests. Whether that be the beautiful and magical realms created by Studio Ghibli, the chaotic and endless adventures of One Piece, or the historic and tragic feel of Vinland Saga, anime offers a wide variety of stories that is sure to encapsulate anyone who gives them a try.
Another reason is due to the fact that anime is just aesthetically pleasing and nice to look at. Anime artists tend to use really vibrant colors, over the top exaggerated expressions, and unique character design to catch the attention of the viewer. Studio Ghibli is most famous for the beautiful landscapes and scenes they are able to create in their mythical worlds. The art in anime can be used as a form of relaxation, while also serving as a break from the dullness of reality.
I personally use anime as a way to take a break from the craziness of the outside world, immersing myself into a new and unexplored fantasy world. I find enjoyment in exploring these stories that anime writers had created and built solely for the sake of people’s entertainment. Anime is big but is still looked upon as strange to some people, but if they were to be open and try something new, I bet they would too be put in a trance by these carefully curated creations!
