The next upcoming school year, Hoover High School will be limiting their bathroom passes to only two bathroom passes per week for every student.
“Students would be in class longer making sure they are not missing out on learning,” said one of Hoover’s Associate Principals, Ms. Cherese Wilshire. “Students will be more intentional when they really need to use the bathroom and wouldn’t be taking advantage of any bathroom policies.”
Many students use the excuse of leaving class for the restroom to avoid class, socialize with friends in the hallways, and use their cellphones. Limiting student passes will help teachers keep track of who leaves the room and how often. It will also create a more focused and learning environment for students and minimize their distractions.
“I think that the two bathroom passes per student per week will help students with time management,” stated Mr. Vincent Viola, who has been one of Hoover’s ground supervision for 26 years.
Many teachers have rules in the classrooms and only allow one student at the time for the restroom. By limiting the bathroom passes it will ensure that students only use the restroom when it’s completely necessary. Limiting the bathroom passes will also help students learn life skills, many workplaces wouldn’t allow you to use the restroom just at any time. Learning to manage your personal needs within certain boundaries may even help you in the future.
If you are in real need of using the bathroom in every class, you may also ask your friend to sell you a pass. The selling of passes will be allowed as long as it’s necessary but be aware of how many passes you have and don’t waste them all. If a student does not have a bathroom pass they will not be allowed to go to the bathroom and students will not be allowed to reuse bathroom passes. The passes will be signed by a teacher and should be given to your teacher once you come back to class.
