When students come back from spring break, there is not going to be a nutrition break anymore after the first period.
The administration has taken note of students’ concerns. There have been many complaints from students saying “The line is too long” and students have complained about being late to class and said that some teachers aren’t accepting that as an excuse. Another reason is that students have complained about the fact that nutrition is after the first period and not before, but if students arrive on time or earlier in the morning, the windows to the cafeteria are open and they are serving food.
“I hate nutrition,” said senior Christian Martinez. “They don’t have what we really want like donuts, egg sandwiches and coffee drinks.”
So many students don’t get a chance to eat breakfast in the morning because they have to take their siblings to school first, and then walk to Hoover. They don’t want to be late for class, and just can’t get something to eat. However, there are snack boxes in most classrooms.
“Nutrition break should be removed,” expressed senior Jose Garcia. “Because some students use it as an excuse to be late to class.”
This shows that some students get away with tardies using nutrition break as an excuse and some teachers accept this as an excuse not knowing that they are lying to get off a tardy. After all, it is true that there are long lines so some students can be telling the truth compared to other students who use it to avoid getting marked tardy and having to make it up on Saturday school. It was more efficient to take it away so all students won’t be late to class.
