Henry Mai is a student athlete and is very involved in clubs and programs that support his college career and overall future.
Henry is a junior who, despite being active in sports and clubs/programs, still keeps his grades a top priority as his current GPA is a 3.82. Henry’s friends describe him as funny, kind, sympathetic, understanding, and smart in not only classes but in life. Henry plays badminton which is a racket sport where players use a shuttlecock to hit over a net to score by the birdie landing on the opponent’s court without them returning the shot. Henry plays badminton because it keeps his body healthy and keeps his mind active however he does say that the sport in general is fun and he enjoys playing it. His journey in badminton started in 9th grade when he would play it in PE and his friends encouraged him to try out for the team.
Henry is in Upward Bound as it’s a great opportunity for him to gain college support abs knowledge, First Gen Club; gives him college knowledge and introduces him to new people who can better his future, and The Step Up program which allows him to meet new people, gives him opportunities to know how it feels like to be in college. He also does service hours with Key Club, APAC Club, UCSD Listen Lab, and the Lunar New Year festival, all of which he meets new people and builds connections that better his future.
