Born in Seoul, South Korea, Steven Yeun, has accomplished his acting career with one of the most famous series and worldwide movies.
He started his whole acting career after doing improv comedy. He was always a humorous person with a huge passion for what he does. After he realized he was not the funniest guy in the room, so he started pursuing and auditioning for acting gigs.
In his entire career, he has earned two Golden Globe Awards, two Critics’ Choice Awards, and two Primetime Emmy Awards. He earned critical acclaim for the films Burning (2018) and Minari (2020). The latter earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor, making him the first Asian American actor to be nominated
Yeun is best known for The Walking Dead, a popular horror television series that is still talked about to this day. He was also the voice of the main protagonist in a famous television show called Invincible. It won the Golden Tomato Award for Best-Reviewed Series in 2023. And was also nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Live Action Short Film category.
His career in films does not end there, with him actively being able to appear in several films that may sound familiar to many – films Okja (2017), Sorry to Bother You (2018), The Humans (2021), and Nope (2022). He has also voiced main characters in animated television series such as Voltron: Legendary Defender (2016–2018) and Tales of Arcadia (2016–2021).
Steven Yeun’s artistic and professional journey seems to come from a mix of personal experiences, and a desire to connect with his Korean heritage. His inspiration was influenced by making him write Minari by his childhood memories, Cather said about drawing inspiration from personal experiences rather than imitating others.
