Pierce The Veil is a well known emo, and alternative rock band founded in San Diego, California by brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes. It is famous for its albums Collide with the Sky, Misadventures, and Selfish Machines.
The band was created in 2006 after the Fuentes brothers’ old band, Before Today, disbanded, with the wish to keep pursuing music they created an album called A Flair for the Dramatic under the name Pierce the Veil. After releasing their album, members Jaime Preciado and Tony Perry joined the band, and they toured for a while until they eventually released their second album Selfish Machines in 2010, which launched them into the mainstream. This album has one of my favorite songs, “Besitos” due to implementation of their Hispanic roots which caught my attention since it was the first time I heard Hispanic instrumentals in an American rock song. But my favorite album, along with most fans, came out in 2012, Collide With the Sky. This album set the band in the hall of fame of alternative rock. Their biggest successes came from this album like the song that made me start listening. Through their successes they have been nominated for awards from the San Diego Music Awards, Kerrang! Awards, and MTV, for categories like Best Alternative Band, Best Live Band, and Best Video.
Pierce The Veil became my favorite band because I felt seen and represented by them. In 6th grade, when I first started listening to them, I loved listening to rock music but I never felt connected to it until I listened to Pierce The Veil. When I heard their song “Bulls in the Bronx,” I couldn’t get enough of them. I felt immediately connected, and knowing that a band from the same city I was from was implementing the same Hispanic roots I was raised with into their music, made me feel seen.
Sadly they went into a three year hiatus but I waited for them to come back, and they did in 2022 with their album release The Jaws of Life. After the album release, they went on tour which they are still currently doing. I know me and many of their fans can’t wait to see and hear what they will do next.
