Natanael Cano was born in Hermosilla, Sonora, Mexico on March 27th, 2001. He’s been a musician since the age of 11, when he performed at gigs with his first guitar. He is from a low income family in Mexico where he developed his love for music, specifically corridos. His inspirations for music were many as he even decided to learn the piano at such an early age. But he mostly was inspired by the great Ariel Camacho ¨The Father of Corridos,” when he received his first guitar.
Starting his career in 2018, he would upload covers of various songs to YouTube, and he started to get recognized. He became an underground artist as his covers reached the likes of many people across YouTube. He signed to his first label, Five Music, where he released his debut single, ¨El de Los Lentes Gucci,¨ and his debut album Todo Es Differente. He eventually was released and signed under Rancho Umilde where he really found a tune with his artistic skills as a singer. Around this time is when I found out about him. He was running a new wave of corridos, they were called ¨Corridos Tumbados,¨ now considered a legendary experiment that Natanael himself created.
Natanael Cano would go on to receive major awards for his music. He most importantly won a Premios Juventud Award just two years after his signing with Rancho Humilde. I saw the hate and dislike that people expressed about his style of music but in the end he proved everyone wrong by winning that award. In 2024, he was the winner for the Latin Grammy as he released an album that took the youth by storm, I included. This album, Nata Montana, is one of many albums that will represent Natanael Cano’s legacy for the years to come.
