The Zika Virus

In America, a lot of people don’t know what’s been occurring in Brazil. There is a virus going on in Brazil called “zika fever”, that is caused by the Zika virus which has been around since 1940 but people have not heard of it until now. Since April 2015, the World Health Organization announced that they are estimating that the virus is likely to spread throughout the west hemisphere. By the aedes aegypti mosquito. The disease has become so easily transmitted, babies are born with any birth effects, have been told by the Colombian health ministers to delay their pregnancy. Because they do not want babies to be born with a sickness.

Complications can also consist of brain conditions. It can be a major effect to the parents because they are going to be struggling with the sickness of their baby. Zika can be spread to the unborn baby. It can cause a defect in the brain called “Microcephaly” and affected a mother’s pregnancy. The virus can also cause red eyes,a rash, joint pain and fever.

This virus can be treated by getting plenty of rest and drinking a lot of liquids so it will prevent the dehydration. The symptoms are similar to ones of like a headache or fever that can be treated symptomatically. There is currently no vaccine or no specific treatment for Zika. Also, some pregnant women came out tested positive for the Zika virus, in Florida. There is 250 more Zika antibody tests from the centers for disease control and prevention.
