Why is Easter early this year?

Marelyn Pinzon, Staff Writer

Easter is one the oldest festivals of the Christian church, that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus between March 21 and April 25. On the first Sunday after the first full moon following the Northern Spring Equinox, Easter occurs, during the weekend of Good Friday to Easter Monday. It’s described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion by Romans. More even, there is a lot of confusion regarding what Easter Sunday is about. People assume it’s just all about the Easter bunny, colorfully decorated Easter eggs and the Easter hunts. But most know that Easter Sunday has nothing to do with the Easter bunnies and eggs. Celebrating Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday is not something that comes every weekend. People shouldn’t allow the fun and games to distract our attention from what the day is mainly about.

Easter is early this year 2015 because the council of Nicaea established that Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after the Vernal Equinox. Easter and its related holidays do not fall on a fixed date in either the Gregorian or Julian calendars. Easter comes along Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday. As a general rule, Easter falls on the first Sunday, following the first full moon after March 21 but that is not always the case.

Easter is a major celebration to many of the people around the world. The New Testament states that the resurrection of Jesus, which Easter celebrates, is a foundation of the Christian faith. The resurrection established Jesus as the powerful Son of God and is cited as proof that God will judge the world in righteousness.

This school is full of other types of religious, and it might be really important to some of the people /classmates in our school, because Easter can be a important celebration for some of us and some people just think Easter is something you celebrate with eggs and candy. That’s not the point.
