What’s coming to Hoover 2016-2017?

For the upcoming school year, fellow Cardinals will have access to new classes and be offered more opportunities to gain AP credit. By opening AP Psychology, AP World (for sophomores), and other college courses, Hoover students will have a better chance at gaining college credit and not be as disadvantaged compared to other students enrolled within neighboring schools.

Not only are classes being polished, but the overall campus is improving. The plans include changing outdated buildings and specific areas within the schoolground. Hoover’s infamous 1200 building is considered to be an eyesore and recently had leaking issues finally fixed. However, this upcoming year, there are plans for renovation. The 1200 building will be changed drastically and will be designed to appear modern. People believed that the 1200 building was a historical building because of how long it has existed, and as a result protests formed thus ultimately delayed  the 1200 building’s downfall. The new version of the 1200 building is going to be based off of the original version during its prime when the towers and bridge existed. The main and front office are also going to be combined and changed in due time as well. Even if progress is somewhat slow, Hoover is gradually becoming a better school.

With Hoover’s campus improving, and class opportunities expanding, coaches are changing too. The original soccer coaches, Jose De Los Santos, Honorio A. Luvianos and Papo Santos were released for a reason unknown to students.Jerry Ralph, who was the Varsity Football coach and Co-Head Track coach, will not be returning for the 2016-2017 Hoover school year. New coaches will take their positions and hopefully lead the legacies left by the prior coaches. Change will always occur, regardless if it is for the better or for the worst. Only time will tell.

Organizations are changing too, and unfortunately Gear Up is taking their leave after the  2015-2016 school year. However CAC will remain on Campus for the 2016-2017 school year and stay for upcoming students. Even though Gear Up is leaving, CAC offers similar services like Gear Up and will continue to be beneficial for Hoover’s students.

During the 2014-2015 school year, a typical student’s schedule incorporated six classes year round, although it was changed to four classes in the 2015-2016 school year. The four classes included a rotation into four separate courses after two quarters excluding AP classes. Next year during the 2016-2017 school year, there may be a A/B day system. Students may possibly have four classes on one day and four different courses the next. If this system is implemented, it will allow students to have their desired courses year round. It not only permits students to spend more time overall within a class, but the A/B day system may be extremely  beneficial for students who are enrolled in AP courses. AP students will be able to take more AP classes year round instead of being stuck with a maximum of four AP classes like the class of 2016. Being able to take multiple AP courses around the same time certainly appears to be a step in the right direction for Hoover.

Regardless of what changes actually go through, Hoover students will prevail. Success is within grasp, and it is possible to obtain. Change could help, but it will take time and adjustment for the full overall effects to settle in.
