Hoover’s Teacher of the Year

Annie Tran, Staff Writer

In early February, it was announced that Mrs. Stephanie Vest was named Hoover High School’s Teacher of the Year!  Mrs. Vest will represent Hoover at the district teacher of the year competition.

Mrs. Vest has been teaching math at Hoover for the past nine years. She attended SDSU to earn her Bachelor in math. Mrs. Vest was part of a professional development for teachers, with the support from this and her fellow co-workers she was able to figure out what she wanted to do as a teacher. The encouragement and guidance was a very big help, and she was able to balance her time at work and at home.

Mrs. Vest said one of her best moments of teaching was one year when a difficult student was place in her class.  Most students and teachers said it was best to not get involved with the student, but she pushed aside the rumors and helped the student who was able to pass the class. Mrs. Vest also admires the good support system among staff members and co-workers, and the strong math department that helps each other.

“I honestly don’t think I deserve this,” expressed Mrs. Vest humbly.  “There are many other teachers who are very passionate about for teaching.”

She has expressed that she’s very flattered for this recognition.
