New Hoover Entrance

Carlos Salazar, Staff Writer

Hoover High School has started the new school year with a new entrance for students. Students now enter through side gate of the 200 building on Highland Avenue. Another difference this school year is the attendance and the main office locations, which are now  located in the library along with the counseling offices. Students can’t access the main front gate anymore and now have to exit the gate by the 1200 building parking lot or the new entrance on Highland, so what are the pros and cons about this?

The pros are is that students who live on Highland will get to school on time and students who have class in the 200 building will be on time and should not have an excuse for being late. The cons are that students who bring a bike or a skateboard will have to take longer than usual because Hoover’s bike rack and skateboard lockers are located pretty far from the new entrance. Students will have the chance of being late, if they don’t arrive early enough to avoid this problem.

Another con is after school when the 200 building exit gets packed from students trying to leave campus. Highland is then filled with students and many are on the street. Cars still drive down Highland and it causes a short traffic jam and there’s a possibility that an accident may occur. Administration should consider the front gate to be open as an option after school and perhaps a new bike rack near the 200 building for students.
