Hoover’s winter sports teams hold on for another week as they face their semi-final opponents. This past weekend was full of lights as Hoover’s four winter sports fought for CIF.

On Friday, February 23, Hoover’s boys basketball and girls soccer played against Olympian and Calvin Christian High respectively. The boys played in a wire to wire game against Olympian and came out victorious with a score of 61-55. They now look to their next matchup against Mount Miguel. As the underdogs, the Lady Cards look to upset their first seeded opponent, Calvin Christian. The girls battled to the last minute. Although they lost with a score of 2-1, they fought like champions.

On Saturday, February 24, the  boy’s soccer and girl’s basketball teams stepped up and walked away with wins. The boys went back and forth the first half and finally closed out Westview in the second half, concluding with a score of 4-0. They’re back at it on our home turf, Wednesday, February 28, against Del Norte, last year’s CIF finals matchup. The girl’s squad was a part of a low scoring, high defense matchup against Orange Glenn but grinded out a win with a score of 36-31. They look to capture a semi-final win away at Pacific Ridge High.

Although sports like girls soccer and wrestling didn’t make it to the next round, their achievements are impressive and the progress they’ve made throughout the season will not be forgotten. It’s a result of hard work and dedication.
