Sung Kang was born on April 8,1976 in Gainesville, Georgia. Kang was born to South Korean immigrant parents and growing up he spent most of his time in California. He attended University of California, Riverside and while attending, he decided to pursue an acting career over law school, which turned out to be a huge disappointment to his parents due to the lack of Asians on American television and the lack of job projects.

As an American actor, Kang’s first major role was in Better Luck Tomorrow, in which he played Han Hu, an aloof gang member. But he is most known for his famous role as Han Lue in The Fast and Furious franchise, appearing in 4 out of the 8 movies. He also owned a restaurant in Brentwood, Los Angeles, California called Saketini.

Before playing his role for Tokyo Drift, Kang was unaware of how big the drifting culture was in Japan, and it was not until he began researching more into drifting that he perfected his skills in this popular sport. Kang continues to work in both film and television.
