Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Jennifer Lopez, better known as J-Lo, is an American actress and singer who is of Puerto Rican ethnicity. She was born on July 24, 1969 in New York City. Through her years as an artist, Lopez has contributed to our society in many different forms. She has teamed up with Amnesty International, a British non- government organization which focuses on human rights to launch a bilingual website aimed towards raising awareness about Mexican femicide after discovering that 350 young women have been killed in Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua since 1993. Both Lopez and her then-husband, Marc Anthony, made a large donation to Children’s Health Fund’s Operation Assist after Hurricane Katrina, and encouraged their fans to give as well. Lopez and other artists like Justin Timberlake even donated clothes, belts, and guitar straps to watchmaker Nixon for the company’s third collection of one of a kind watches. The sale of pieces created from bits of celebrity items will benefit the MusiCares MAP Fund which is a pool of resources set aside to address addiction and recovery needs of the music community. In addition Lopez also did a photoshoot in order to help raise awareness for DKMS which is an international non-profit bone marrow donor center. Furthermore, J-Lo was also one of the recipients of Love Our Children USA’s, she contributed to helping prevent any form of violence against children.  Jennifer Lopez has been looked at as a role model, and she inspires many people to help and contribute to those in need.
