Selena Quintanilla was an American singer, songwriter, spokesperson, model, actress, and fashion designer who was born on April 16,1971, in Lake Jackson, TX. She’s known as the “Queen of Tejano music” or the “Mexican Madonna”. Around the age of ten, Selena was the lead singer of her family’s band, Los Dinos. Selena then wanted to go professional and she then won a Grammy award in 1993 for best Mexican America album.
Sadly, in 1995 Selena was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldivar who was the founder of the Selena Fan Club. Selena’s murder impacted the Latino community and her fans around the world. Selena’s album Dreaming of You was released after her death and it became a number one hit on the billboard top 100. Although she’s been dead for 24 years now, her fans still mourn her death and they also play and sing her songs. Her fan base still grows with each new generation.
