Cuco recently has become one of the many rising Hispanic inspirations in our society. His real name is Omar Banos, and he is a 21 year old Chicano singer-songwriter who creates “alternative dream pop” consisting of lyrics that blend English and Spanish. Omar Banos was born in Inglewood, California on June 28,1998 to immigrant Mexican parents. Growing up in Hawthorne California, he began playing music at the age of eight, experimenting with instruments such as the bass guitar, trumpet, keyboard, and other instruments before beginning to record music at the age of 15. Cuco’s recognition began growing after releasing his first single “Lo Que Siento” in 2017, his songs would relate to young teens to young love and heartbreak. His presence in the music industry became important as he was becoming a representation of Chicano and immigrant backgrounds. Recently he has performed at “Selena for Sanctuary,” along with other artists like Kali Uchis and Helado Negro, which supports immigrant rights by raising funds in order to help immigrants navigate the path toward citizenship. The young Chicano artist has been becoming a bigger influence towards young first-generation Chicanos to keep on dreaming about their future.  His music brings together a community of young Chicanos who share relatable experiences as part of an immigrant family. Cuco’s impact on the Hispanic society is still growing from his music helping lost young romantics to becoming a representation and a voice for the Chicano community.
