Flashback 80s ~ Guns N’ Roses
December 2, 2020
Gun N’ Roses, often abbreviated GNR, is a hard rock band (heavy metal) from Los Angeles, California and formed in 1985. This band has multiple members, some come and go but many of the members that all have different positions in the band. Guns N’ Roses invigorated the late 1980s heavy metal music with its raw energy. The principal members were Axl Rose (original name William Bailey), Slash (original name Saul Hudson), Duff McKagan (original name Michael McKagan), Izzy Stradlin (original name Jeff Isbell), Steve Adler, Matt Sorum, Dizzy Reed (original name Darren Reed), and Gilby Clarke. “Welcome to the Jungle” was issued as the album’s first single in October, with an accompanying music video. Initially, the album and single lingered for almost a year without performing well, but when Geffen founder David Geffen was asked to lend support to the band, he obliged, personally convincing MTV executives to play “Welcome to the Jungle” during the network’s after-hours rotation. Due to the growing grassroots success of the band and the cross-gender appeal of the song, “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and its accompanying music video received heavy airplay on both radio and MTV, becoming a huge hit during the summer of 1988 and reaching the top of the charts in the U.S. Their songs are a very ugly, rare heavy rock that goes on with a good vibe and just nodding your head. When I first found out about this band I thought they were a little too crazy (too much energy) but if you listen to it closely most of their songs have some deep hard feelings with meaning behind it.
