Calling all filmmakers!

Eric Sanchez, Editor-in-Chief

The first annual Hoover Film Festival was established when multiple classes on Hoover’s campus were creating films as part of their curriculum.  This also allowed students who were creating films outside of school to enter their work.  The deadline to submit films is May 25.  Originally the deadline was this week, but some students asked for more time.  Students can enter their films in the following categories:

Personal Short Film

Short narrative films on any topic or style that are not covered in any category below. The personal stories must be 5 minutes or less.

Stop Motion

Short narrative films on any topic or style that are not covered in any category below. Areas may include, but are not limited to: humanities, history, literature, religion, language, art, music, experimental film, philosophy, sociopolitical or personal stories. Entries must be 5 minutes or less and stop motion animation.

PSA (Public Service Announcement)

A 30-60 second video that raises public awareness around any issue. Issues can vary, but we suggest themes such as climate change, self-esteem, cyberbullying, racism, social media safety, and hate speech/crimes. Entries must be 60 seconds or less.

Silent Film

Short narrative silent films on any topic or style.  Entries must be 3 minutes or less.

Short Documentary

Use video, pictures, or interviews with people involved in real events to provide a factual record or report. Entries must be 5 minutes or less.

Sports

Use video, pictures, or interviews with people involved in real events to provide a factual record or report. Entries must be 5 minutes or less and be animated.

The festival is hosted by the staff of The Cardinal, who is also working with the San Diego Media Arts Center.  If you are interested in submitting a film, please check out the Hoover Film Festival website for more information and submission instructions.
