A family of spies

A binge-worthy anime that I enjoy watching is Spy x Family. Spy x Family is a comedy action manga that has been adapted into an animated TV series. The series is divided into two parts which aired from April to June 2022 and then from October to December 2022. Currently, the second season is set to be released later this year in October.

The anime follows the protagonist, Loid Forger, a spy from the nation of Westalis whose code name is “Twilight.” His mission is to gather insight and spy on Donovan Desmond, a leader of his rival nation, Ostania. However, due to Desmond’s seclusive nature, Loid has to resort to getting closer to him through his son, Damien. As a result, Loid is tasked to build a family in order to approach Desmond by disguising himself as a fellow parent. To set his mission into action, Loid adopts a little girl, Anya, and marries a woman named Yor Briar, enrolling Anya into the same school as Damian. The twist behind this seemingly perfect family is that they are unaware of each other’s true identities. Anya is telepathic and can read others’ minds while Yor is a professional assassin. Throughout the series, Loid learns to become the perfect father and husband in his role to properly execute his mission while dealing with obstacles that follow along the way.

What I love about this series is that it is lighthearted and essentially a serotonin booster as each episode always makes me crack a smile and laugh. I find it heartwarming to see the trio go from being strangers to growing love for each other and truly being like a family. As someone who is drawn to the slice-of-life genre, the unpredictable storyline is captivating and pulls me into wanting to watch another episode after I finish one. At the moment, there are a total of 25 episodes and the length of each episode is only about 20 minutes long, which makes it easy to binge (I may or may not have finished the series within two days). Overall, the Forger’s family dynamic is simply fun to watch, and the humor is implemented very well! The series is available to stream on platforms such as Hulu and Crunchyroll. It is definitely worth adding to your watch list!
