Hope Sandavol is a Hispanic Mexican artist who grew up in east Los Angeles to Mexican American parents. She is most famous for her role in the band Mazzy Star as the lead singer.
Mazzy Star debuted in 1990 and rose to fame in 1994 after their famous single “Fade into You¨ which landed Sandoval’s band on the eye of many big name producers. Mazzy Star actually was previously known as Opal but when their lead singer left, Sandavol took her place as lead singer. She is influential because she was a part of the alternative rock era of the 1990s which wasn’t uprooted with many Hispanics and her being a part of it, influenced many new artists we see today.
Her style of singing and playing with melodies in a slow and calming ways brought a new wave of music we still see today in newer bands. She has been an influential movement not only in her Hispanic heritage but in her way of singing and making her songs come to life. Hope Sandavol is a great example of an influential Hispanic artist who has made an impact on music all around the world to many different artists.
