Hoover Nights was hosted by the Social Justice Academy, with Ms. Sharon Apple as the MC and coordinator. This year there were two days of fun on December 7 and 8, from 5 to 8 pm.
Students set up tables for the various clubs who were going to sell drinks and food. There were a few clubs selling hot chocolate which was great because each one tasted different. There were also cookies, dumplings, donuts, and tostilocos.
Just outside of the school people could purchase tickets to the drama department’s annual holiday show, which was three dollars for students and five dollars for adults. The show featured different scenes that revolved around the holidays. This was the first production directed by the new drama teacher, Ms. Kati Behumi. The scenes were very funny and featured students who are not necessarily in the drama department, and they were all well acted out.
“The play was hilarious,” exclaimed junior Kenya Ortiz. “You could tell the actors and actresses really worked together to give the audience their best performance.”
When students entered campus, they could purchase tickets which were used to purchase food and drinks. Some highlights of Hoover Nights included a photo booth that was free to guests. They had a bunch of hats and other items to use in the photos. There were also performances in the small amphitheater. A new group on campus, The Majorettes, performed a dance number which they did both nights. One of the big performances on Friday night was of Hoover’s new mariachi ensemble.
Imin hosted a super Mario game where different students could take turns and play. Overall it was a nice fun way to hang out with friends and family along with eating some delicious food. “There were girls dancing, there were teachers singing, the mariachi band was playing, Feliz Navidad,” expressed junior Dhalia Arriaga.
Hoover Nights was another great success this year. Ms. Apple even gave the event some fake snow.
