Romantic movies to enjoy on Valentine’s Day!

1. The Notebook-  In 1940s South Carolina, mill worker Noah Calhoun and rich girl Allie are desperately in love. But her parents don’t approve. When Noah goes off to serve in World War II, it seems to mark the end of their love affair. In the interim, Allie becomes involved with another man. But when Noah returns to their small town years later, on the cusp of Allie’s marriage, it soon becomes clear that their romance is anything but over.

2. Titanic- Titanic is a love story that takes place on the famous ship the RMS Titanic. Young Rose is making her way back to America on the Titanic with her mother and fiance, where she meets Jack Dawson. During the voyage, despite their social status differences, Rose and Jack fall in love.

3. 10 Things I Hate About You- Kat Stratford  is beautiful, smart and quite abrasive to most of her fellow teens, meaning that she doesn’t attract many boys. Unfortunately for her younger sister, Bianca, house rules say that she can’t date until Kat has a boyfriend. So strings are pulled to set the dour damsel up for a romance. Soon Kat crosses paths with handsome new arrival Patrick Verona who she soon falls in love with.

4. Five Feet Apart – Seventeen-year-old Stella spends most of her time in the hospital as a cystic fibrosis patient. Her life is full of routines, boundaries and self-control — all of which get put to the test when she meets Will, an impossibly charming teen who has the same illness. There’s an instant flirtation, though restrictions dictate that they must maintain a safe distance between them. As their connection intensifies, so does the temptation to throw the rules out the window and embrace that attraction.

5. A Walk to Remember-  Two North Carolina teens, Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan, are thrown together after Landon gets into trouble and is sentenced to perform community service. The two soon fall in love with each other.

6. Me Before You- Louise Clake becomes a caregiver for Will Traynor, a wealthy young banker who was left paralyzed after an accident. Will’s cynical outlook on life is challenged when Louise shows him that life is worth living, leading their lives and hearts to change in ways neither one could have ever imagined.

7. To All the Boys I Loved Before-  a romantic comedy about a teenage girl named Lara Jean, who finds out her younger sister has accidentally mailed her secret childhood love notes to five boys that were addressed but never sent. Peter, one of the boys, derives a plan to use the letter to his advantage. He negotiates with Lara Jean the terms of a fake relationship to make his ex-girlfriend, Gen, jealous. All goes well until Peter and Lara Jean start to really fall for one another, which makes things more complicated.

8. Save the Last Dance- Sara moved from a small Midwestern town to the south side of Chicago, after her mother dies in a car accident, and must live with her father. She soon falls for an African American teenager at her new high school and he has less than an idyllic past. They share a love for dance and together they tackle the problems that go with an interracial relationship.

9. Purple Hearts- Cassie, a struggling singer-songwriter agrees to marry a troubled marine, Luke, for military benefits. The line between real and pretend begins to blur.

10. La La Land- Sebastian and Mia are drawn together by their common desire to do what they love. But as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart.

Sarai Mendoza is a 15 year old sophomore at Hoover High School. She was born on November 21 and raised in San Diego California. Sarai grew up in a loving family with her mother and four siblings. Growing up she was always spoiled for being the youngest. As a child, her mother always encouraged her to value her education and take advantage of all the great opportunities. Not only that but to also become more independent as she grew up. Her biggest inspiration in life has to be her mom, who was born and raised in Mexico City. She came to the United States about 20 years ago in hope for a better life. Although she was a single mother, she worked hard to always give her five children a better life . No matter how bad things got, her mother always motivated her to be a better person. Sarai would do anything to continue to make her proud Her top three favorite places to eat have to be In-n-Out, Wingstop, and Olive Garden. She loves to write. Her favorite school subject is English. Don't ever ask her for help in math because she won’t understand a thing. Sarai is very shy at first but once you get to know her and help her step out her comfort zone, she becomes this funny and out-going person. As she grew up she realized she wanted to become a medical assistant. She hopes to get into a good college, and will continue to work hard to do so. She believes that if she continues to encourage others to continue to reach their goals and never give up on their dreams, it can make a huge difference on other people.
