Jose Jose has been a singer for more than fifty two years, spanning from 1963–2012.
José Rómulo Sosa Ortiz was born on February 17, 1948 in Azcapotzalco, Mexico City. Born into a family of musicians, Jose Jose started his music career singing in his teenage years, singing in serenades and playing the guitar. Later on in his life he played the bass and double bass when he joined a jazz and bossa nova trio. His success rained from his beautiful music and his voice.
Early 1970s was when José became a successful solo artist and was among the most successful Latino artists. José’s most notable songs were “El Triste,” “Gavilan o Paloma,” and many more. His music has an impact on people, and he was known as “The Prince Of Song.” He was an icon of Latin pop music of his time. With his interpretation of music and his extraordinary voice, he sold over 250 million albums and received many awards.
His music influenced many other young artists which in later years became as successful as he was. He was also an actor starring in Gavilán o Paloma, which was titled after one of his most popular songs, and another movie called Perdoname Todo. His acting career was rather short but still has an impact on his audience.
José’s vocals began to deteriorate by the early 1990, and it continued to worsen over a long period of time due to his excessive drinking, which later became obvious during his live performances. José José passed away on September 28, at the age of 71. His music has been going through generations of people and continues to play a big role inspiring others even after he passed away.
