Alejandra Olvera is a Junior at Hoover High School who is also in the former ALMA academy, VAPA.
Alejandra comes from immigrant parents who came to the United States almost thirty years ago. She had a rough upcoming from consistently getting bullied since elementary school to not caring anymore what people think of her. She likes spicy food, Hello Kitty and Friends, reading, romcom movies/shows, playing on her switch, loves her dog Bimbo and loves sleeping. She absolutely dislikes tomatoes, bugs and Spiders. Alejandra’s favorite food and drinks are menudo, mulitas, quesabirras, dumplings, fish cake, buldak noodles and loves to drink lemonade.
Her goals are to graduate, get rid of her fear of public speaking and to make her mom proud. Her aspirations in life are to go to a good college and become an immigration lawyer because she feels that people who work so hard to stay in a country to provide a better life to their children should absolutely get their green card/papers. They are usually the ones working double if not triple harder to make a living.
Her role model is her mom because she adores her mom so much for everything that she has done. Her mom stepped up when her dad didn’t, took her to every doctor’s appointment, every first day of school and tried to understand her daughter’s likes and dislikes. Her mom taught her that not everyone is going to like you in life but the most important thing is to like yourself and to not stay quiet, just to keep the peace. That it’s important to speak up and stand up for yourself and to never let anyone mistreat you.
Something she thinks she can do to change the world is advocating for the people that need it, to say something when someone is mistreating someone else. She thinks that something society can do to make the world a better place is to stop harassing one another because of their race, skin color, ethnicity, background, sexuality, and wealth, but also to treat one another as human because that’s what they are.
“Be yourself and always remember your fabulous!“- Alejandra Olvera
