Selina Sanchez-Castaneda, Staff Writer

Selina is a sophomore at Hoover High School, and Class of 2028. She was born at Scripps Hospital. Her parents are from Puebla, Conzingo, and in her household, there are four right now, but she also has three older siblings and a nephew who mean the world to her. Her family has taught her the importance of hard work, respect, and always being there. She enjoys cooking, cleaning, and spending time with her family. She loves trying new recipes, organizing spaces in her house, and making her environment welcoming. She also enjoys listening to music and watching TikTok. She dislikes negativity, messy or unorganized things; they just distract and stress her out, and situations where people are treated unfairly.

One of her goals in high school is to grow academically, get involved in more school activities, and build strong friendships. She aspires to be someone who inspires others through kindness and determination. Her biggest role model is her older sister because she has shown her the value of responsibility and resilience, as well as hard work and compassion, and she motivates her to stay focused on her dreams and to pick the right people to hang out with. After high school, she plans to attend college to study cosmetology so she can pursue a career as a hair stylist and possibly open a hair salon one day. Some of her favorite foods are tacos and homemade family recipes, and her favorite drinks would be a strawberry acai from Starbucks.

Selina believes she can help change the world by spreading kindness and respect in her everyday life. Even small actions, like helping others, keeping her community clean, or encouraging someone who’s struggling, can create a positive ripple effect. She also hopes to use her skills in cooking and organization to one day help people in need, such as supporting food programs for families. She places by focusing on empathy and fairness, listening to one another, and working together to access basic needs like food, clean water, education, and safety. If we treat each other with respect and compassion, the world will be a kinder place.
