My favorite musician is Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago, or professionally known as Anuel AA from Carolina, Puerto Rico.
Anuel was born on November 26, 1992 and is now famously known as a Puerto Rican rapper and singer. He started creating music when he was very young at the age of 14 but officially uploaded it four years later when he was 18. As a result, this is why I like his music and him as an artist because he came from humble beginnings and wasn’t in it for the money. In addition, mainly all the artists in today’s society decide to release music just for the success and not as their passion. He is also famously known as “one of the founding fathers of Latin trap music” since he’s very well known in mainly Spanish speaking countries. Therefore, I am one of those people included who are big fans of him and his creations.
He has also won many different awards and prizes for different categories and genres of music. One of the awards he has won was the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Caribbean Act in 2019, which was also the very first time this award was given out. More recently in 2023, he won a Premio Juventud for Best Dembow Collaboration for the song “Delincuente” alongside Nengo Flow and Tokischa. For that reason, seeing someone coming from nothing and building an empire feels very inspiring and is another reason why I love his albums.
Alongside his awards he has also used his millions of dollars generated to support charities like the SER de Puerto Rico which is a non-profit organization that’s main goal is to uplift people with disabilities. Back in 2020 the Puerto Rican rapper led out a statement that all his profits from his newly released album at the time would go directly to Coronavirus Relief. This proves that he has a kind heart and knows what it’s like to struggle and does his best to help those in need. My favorite song of all time from Anuel has to be “Tu No Lo Amas” which was released in 2018 and translates to “you don’t love him.”
