“Train to Busan”, a Korean action/horror movie that was released in 2016, remains one of my top movies on my list of films that I have watched.
The plot places a workaholic divorced father, Seok-Woo, who’s constantly under pressure at work as a fund manager, and his daughter, Soo-an, who craves to return to her mother’s arms. Seok-Woo tries his best to provide for his daughter physically and financially. However, he lacks presence emotionally, leading Soo-an wanting to leave Seoul, and travel to Busan where her mother resides. Over time, a disease breaks out in Seoul, turning citizens into zombies if they come into contact via a bite mark.
The storyline introduces many characters that interfere and/or aid the main characters as they embark on their life-threatening journey. The main character, Seok-Woo, played by actor Gong Yoo, is a well loved actor within the Korean establishment industry. “Train to Busan” was said to be a massive career milestone for Gong Yoo as that marked him as a global sensation due to the movie attracting over 11 million views.
I recommend this movie to anyone who loves an emotional roller coaster. There are so many different feelings being built up, and intensity continues to grow throughout the film. For both the characters and viewers, there are a handful of plot-twists, and gut-wrenching scenes that make the movie as good as it is. What the film made me feel while I was watching it is hard to replicate, it’s truly one of a kind. “Train to Busan” is the kind of movie that even if you watch it once, it can leave a mark on you. I like to describe this mark as eye-opening. It leaves you wanting more.
