At Hoover, there are many special teachers, but today let’s take the time to bring attention to Elizabeth Lonnecker.
Ms. Lonnecker shows true dedication to her students by always checking in on them and making sure they feel supported. She goes beyond the classroom, putting time and effort into planning meaningful assignments that show she genuinely cares about teaching, not just academic subjects, but life lessons that students can carry with them long after they leave her class. Her kindness and patience create an environment where students feel comfortable being themselves
Ms. Lonnecker’s journey to becoming a teacher began when she joined the Peace Corps and taught overseas. That experience inspired her to pursue a career in education where she could continue in education, but also, where she could continue making a difference in students’ lives. Her passion is clear in the way she teaches and connects with her students every day. It’s clear that teaching is not just her job, but something she truly values.
Her favorite part about teaching is seeing students challenge themselves, think creatively, and develop new ideas especially when those ideas are driven by a desire to make a positive impact on the world. She finds it incredibly rewarding to watch her students grow, not only academically but also as individuals.
One of her most meaningful moments as a teacher happened recently during a student showcase, where she watched her students confidently present their projects. They demonstrated not only what they had learned, but also how to interact with people of all abilities and create a more inclusive environment.
Above all, Ms. Lonnecker hopes her students leave her class feeling confident in their abilities and empowered to speak up for what they believe in. Her advice to students is simple but powerful. You already have wisdom inside of you, take the time to listen to your inner voice, trust it, and follow the path you know is right.
