Spending time with myself

Veronica Perez, Senior Writer

Honestly, time alone is never bad for one person. It can indeed help oneself when it comes to being stressed, annoyed, irritated, or upset. Personally for me it helps me a lot for many different reasons and ways.

Usually what I do to have some alone time is I go on long night drives and just listen to music. Other times I want to be alone but yet have company. Music is a good way to help me relax and have a peaceful time. Having alone time means you can explore more about yourself and grow more as a person. You can find out things about yourself that not even your closest friends know about. It indeed can help your brain rest and rejuvenate.

Spending time is also a way of self-care. It may seem crazy but just having a day to yourself can also help you mentally. It can reduce stress and increase happiness. There are many activities to do alone:

  • Learn a new skill
  • Clean the house
  • Head out for a long walk/run
  • Learn a new language
  • Create a bucket list
  • Meditate
  • Draw/paint
  • Start a puzzle
  • Cook/bake
  • Listen to music
  • Watch a new show
  • Start a garden

With all these things, it can help you spend time with yourself and share new skills with others. There may be some activities you can do by yourself or do with others. My favorites would probably be cooking/baking, watching a show, or going for a run. It calms me down and just lets me settle down when I’m anxious or emotional as well. Baking and cooking may be the one that takes up the most time but it does help and it is also delicious and it’s something I can share a lot with others.
