Mia Serna-Lozano is a 17 year old senior tennis player at Hoover High School who has made remarkable performances.
Mia has been playing tennis for three years now and has shown dedication and commitment to the sport. Recently, she has won four out of six matches in the past two weeks. She first joined tennis out of curiosity because it seemed like a fun sport and she has now grown to like the sport. She enjoys playing tennis because she says it is fun when you win and even if you lose the sport continues to be very fun. She says the losses give her motivation to go back another day and improve. Mia’s currently has the highest win percentage on her team making her and her teammates proud.
Outside of tennis she is actively involved in a lot of curricular programs and clubs that are related to science and engineering as it is something that she is interested in. She is involved in the Ocean Discovery Institute program, Aaron Price Fellows Program, ACE mentor program, and last year was involved in the Avenues for Success program. Mia says that her parents are the ones who make her want to keep going because they have made many sacrifices for their family. While balancing athletics, academics and extra-curriculars, Mia holds a bright future for herself.
