Simone Biles was born on March 14, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio, and is considered to be one of the best gymnasts of all time.
Biles has won more Olympic and World Championships than any other gymnast in history She won multiple gold medals across the 2016 Rio, 2020 Tokyo, and 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Most of the skills she has performed are so difficult that they have been named after her, such as the “Biles,” a roundoff, back handspring with half turn entry. Also the “Biles II,” which starts off with a Yurchenko, a roundoff on the springboard and a back handspring onto the vault, combined with a double pike, a move that no woman has done. Her success has changed what is possible in the gymnastics world and she has also raised the standards for gymnasts worldwide.
Outside her athletic achievements, Biles has made the world a better place by speaking openly about mental health, especially for athletes under intense pressure. During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she desired to step out of the competition due to her mental health. She realized she deserted her well being over competing.
As a young black woman, in a sport that isn’t very inclusive, she has also shown that she is a powerful person and that nothing can stop her. She is seen as a role model for girls, and even boys, because of what she has accomplished.
