In honor of Asian American Heritage month, someone whose multiracial ethnicities are often dismissed is Kamala Harris, coming from a South Asian descent on her mothers side.
Kamala Harris was born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland California. She is the daughter of two immigrants who come from India and Jamaica. As of today, Harris is best known for her numerous works and effort in running for president in the 2024 presidential election. She’s one of the first African and Asian Americans to run for a presidential nomination and became the first female to become Vice President. Prior to this, Harris even ran for Democratic nomination in the year of 2020 before Joe Biden did.
Harris impacted society by securing $20 billion settlement towards homeowners during the foreclosure crisis, providing $450 billion towards six million small businesses and shutting down scam healthcare sites. Additionally, she significantly impacted many people by suing drug companies for unlawful drug costs, expected to save taxpayers $6 billion. She not only did that but actually protected America from the crisis by providing security and benefits for the people who were in need of help. For example, by securing protection among seniors from fraud and scams, she created an environment where it would be safe for the people and not constantly feel like they’re drowning in debt.
In alignment to provide equality towards all ethnicities, Harris showed a focus on equal rights for everyone by not abusing her power and using it to provide for the citizens. Moreover, she also invested $370 billion to decrease climate change and expand energy production. Harris showed how she focuses on the people in regards to those who need financial support and the environment that is continuously deteriorating due to climate and affecting the next generations future.
By providing many benefits and programs to help others and their financial situations, Harris often worked to make it easier for Americans to breathe rather than stress out while living in America.
