Shopping is a useful way to distract yourself from any outside problems and worries that make you anxious. Especially in today’s society, it is extremely easy for someone to fall into bad habits all because they don’t have other ways to cope.
Shopping is a great and healthy way, if I do say so myself, to get away from personal stress or situations that are bothering you. Personally, whenever I feel down or anxious, I take myself shopping and the sadness goes away almost instantly. It is important to remember to take care of yourself before anything else, most of the time you overwork yourself without knowing, which leads to a burn out.
Also, nothing can compare to how good you feel as soon as you get home with all your new shopping bags! In addition, when you have new items like shoes or clothes, you feel excited for the days to come so you can finally use all your new items. When you go shopping it also boosts your mood and your serotonin levels, overall good factors for your health.
Therefore, going shopping once in a while is essential in order to keep a positive attitude and release happy hormones. It can lead to a temporary mood lift, making you feel good and letting the stress fade away for a bit. To add on, when you go shopping you’re also getting exercise, having to walk from store to store, also improving your health. Speaking for myself, whenever I’m done shopping I end up exhausted from having walked a couple miles. But, it makes me feel great knowing that not only did I treat myself to a shopping spree, I also completed my steps for the day.
However, shopping in excessive amounts can be harmful if you’re not careful. A lot of times people don’t keep track of their spending and later realize that they shouldn’t have spent all that money, causing more stress. That’s why it is good to practice having gratitude, giving gifts or donating to charities when able to. When you help out others it also boosts your happiness levels, while at the same time doing a good deed.
