In the modern day, women have rights and freedom but in the past, women didn’t have those rights. One of the most influential women that helped women to gain their rights was Susan B. Anthony.
Anthony lived in Massachusetts and was born on February 15, 1820. She passed away on March 13, 1906. She was a prominent suffrage activist and social reformer that helped in the Women’s Suffrage Movement.
Her belief was equality. She fought for abolition of slavery in 1856, and served as an American anti-slavery society agent. Not only that, she made speeches, and distributed pamphlets. With her determination, she worked towards a better future for females in the hope for further generations that can have freedom and education. Many females were inspired by her for standing up towards the rights and the next generation to gain that freedom.
Anthony traveled to give speeches about women’s rights, and spread awareness until she passed away. What made people feel so inspired by her is that no matter how tired she was, she still fought for women’s suffrage and her belief for gender equality, as well her “dare-do” activism. She gave about 75 to 100 lectures annually and met with congressmen over 30 years to evoke women’s suffrage. Not only that, she voted illegally in the 1872 election just to challenge disenfranchisement.
“I declare to you that woman must not depend upon the protection of man, but must be taught to protect herself, and there I take my stand.”
~ Susan B. Anthony
