Bruce Lee was born on November 27, 1940 at his birthplace of San Francisco, California but specifically he was born in Chinatown. Lee is well known for revolutionizing the martial arts in cinema.
Whilst Bruce Lee is known for martial arts he managed to accomplish many other things. Another one of his martial arts accomplishments is that he blended together the Eastern and Western views to create Jeet Kune Do. Jeet Kune Do emphasizes efficiency, directness, and freedom of form. Lee shattered stereotypes by becoming the first global Chinese superstar.
Lee’s first role was as a baby which means he was introduced to the world of cinema at an early age. The role he played as a baby was quite simple, all he did was get carried onto the stage in the film Golden Gate Girl. Once Lee was seven he began to practice tai chi with his father, when he was nine years old he co-starred with his dad in The Kid in 1950. This would be Lee’s first leading role. He continued to appear in many films and by the time he had reached eighteen he had appeared in twenty films. Although his most best and iconic film is considered to be Enter The Dragon, made in 1973. The plot essentially just combines martial arts with spy elements. Lee’s role in the film was that he was a martial arts expert determined to help capture a narcotics leader whose gang was responsible for the death of his sister.
Lee’s cause of death was from a cerebral edema. He died on July 20th, 1973 at the age of 32. Bruce Lee bridged together the Eastern and Western cultures. He broke through racial stereotypes and barriers in the entertainment world and popularized martial arts globally. He will always be remembered.
