Not just for the “weekend”

Not just for the weekend

My favorite singer is the Weeknd, better known as Abel Makkonen Tesfaye. He is 32 years old and was born on February 16, 1990 in Toronto Canada.

The Weeknd is considered a singer, songwriter and record producer, and is best known for his sonic versatility and dark lyricism. Music can be used for many different reasons, for an escape, to have fun, to enhance your emotions, but for him, his music allows him and his fans to explore escapism, romance, and melonchaliam which can be often created from his own personal experiences.

The Weeknd has accomplished so many things, for example he received four Grammy Awards, 20 Billboard Music Awards, and 17 Juno Awards. In 2011, he co-founded the XO record label and released mixtapes of Thursday and Echoes Of Silence which got recognition due to his style of contemporary and alternative R&B that really brought out his identity. In 2015, he had begun contributing to film soundtracks with his single “Earned It” which helped him become nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

His second album Beauty Behind The Madness, released in 2015, had reached number one in the US and was nominated for Album of the Year. The Weeknd is recognized as one of the world´s best-selling music artists with over 75 million records sold.  He is the first artist to debut on the top three on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and his song ¨Blinding Lights¨ is the longest charting song in Billboard history. Not only is he known for his music but he is also an inspiration to people. He was also an advocate for racial equality and food security. He was appointed as a World Food Programme Goodwill Ambassador last year in 2021. His music has brought me peace and is a good person to listen to when you just want to relax.
