ASB student leaders organized a peaceful protest in support of the National Shutdown Take Action ICE Out Day.
Students and staff who wanted to participate in the walk met at 2 pm in the stadium. Students were told they would receive unexcused absences if they did not go to their period 4 class. The march began at the Highland gate.
ASB leaders led the students down Highland Avenue toward El Cajon Blvd. Students were told to stand on the sidewalk and to stay out of the street. Students yelled and chanted, and even the music students played while everyone was screaming. Many students held up signs protesting ICE and the current United States administration for their lack of humanity.
Police were present and blocked off the lane in front of the school. Hoover administration and staff were there to keep students on the curb.
The protesters were asked to stay in the front of the school until the 3:35 bell rang, and students would be able to return to campus. Hoover High School was even mentioned on the local news for their protest.
Photographers Sarai Mendoza and Eyvi Ordonaz capture some of the highlights.
