Jorge Lua is a junior in the LEAD academy who has shown great athleticism on the Hoover’s varsity volleyball team.
This is his first year playing for Hoover’s volleyball team and within his first year he has made the varsity team and shown himself to be a great player. Jorge says he likes to make sure to show up to practices and even practices outside of school to further improve his skills. Before joining the team here at Hoover, Jorge had already had some experience playing volleyball. He says that when he was in elementary school, he loved playing volleyball with his classmates and his cousins and he then ended up growing love for the sport. Despite any challenges this sport may come with, Jorge always has a positive mindset and feels supported by his teammates. Although English wasn’t his first language, it did not stop him from trying out and overcoming language barriers.
Outside of Jorge’s sports life, he enjoys going to the gym and continuing to play volleyball as a hobby. He likes to keep himself occupied by having many hobbies such as drawing, crocheting, playing Sudoku and has a big interest in art. In his classes, he always demonstrates hard work and dedication to what he is doing and makes sure to get his work done on time. He is a great student and is a good representation of what it takes to be a Cardinal.
Something he’d like students to know, “Don’t let language barriers stop you from your passion.”
